When it comes to the regular employee benefits package, this consists of all the benefits unrelated to their salaries, such as paid time off and overtime.
However, there is a variety of other benefits that you could include to help your employees feel truly valued and encourage them to love their work. In fact, every employee that you hire has a right to negotiate certain benefits that come with their compensation package, when you offer them a job in your company.
In this article, we are going to discuss some of the benefits that your employees are certain to appreciate and enjoy.
Health insurance options and coverage
You might want to offer your employees a variety of medical insurance plans that they can choose from, so that their health care costs are properly covered. There is a variety of options out there, some of them being Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs).
There is, of course, a variation in how much your employees need to pay before their insurance comes into place, as well as required payments for particular services and premium plans. As for the two aforementioned options, HMOs usually come with lower premiums than PPOs but are more limited in terms of choosing a physician and a provider.
The case with the majority of these plans is that they cover necessary visits to physicians for primary care as well as specialists, necessary hospitalization, and also emergency care. Other types of medical care, such as vision, dental, wellness, and so on, depend on the chosen plan.
Make the workplace a second home
Believe it or not, your workplace can be a kind of benefit as well. You can actually do much for your employees if you invest in the space where they spend a significant part of their day.
This is especially the case with industries such as IT. People here spend hours and hours between their four walls, so come up with the best possible office solutions that you can. Ensure the office has a lot of space, and of course, include proper air-conditioning so that they don’t work in a stale environment.
Furthermore, you have to focus on the office ergonomics. Make sure that your employees have adjustable desks and chairs, so that they can set them up according to their proper posture, can properly rest their wrists, and so on. Also, include enough conference rooms where your workers can work in peace, as well as a room where everyone can gather to socialize and rest.
Get creative
When mentioning the workplace, you can get even more creative, and adopt the trend of outdoor office spaces. You can enable your employees to have a space outside your premises that will be equipped just like an office and serve all their purposes so that they can get their work done. Of course, this kind of space requires its own security, so you should focus on surrounding it with proper fences, installing necessary surveillance and gate accessories.
A problem with this kind of space, however, can simply be the weather. Rain and wind can really make it an issue. That is why you might consider creating a sort of pop - up office space that will have proper cover during cold and rainy days, and be open when it is warm and clear.
Offer fringe benefits
Depending on what kind of business you are running, there can be a wide variety of other benefits, which are usually called fringe benefits, or benefits in kind. These kind of benefits can incorporate;
- Bonuses
- Life insurance
- Profit sharing
- Medical
- Disability
- Free meals
- Paid vacations
- The ability to use a company’s car
- Pensions
- Childcare
- Sick leave
- Pension plan additions
- Tuition reimbursement programs for employees and even their families
- Discounts on your products or services
- Gratuity
- Housing
- And many others
These benefits are not required by law and are entirely dependent on your own will. Of course, while they have a monetary value, they do not affect the worker’s pay in any way, and they cannot trade these benefits for getting a higher salary.
Provide a “fun space”
Every employee needs to take a break from their work from time to time. So why not create a “fun space” where they can sit and rest in a cozy chair, and maybe read a book. Furthermore, you can equip this room with various fun accessories, such as a PlayStation or Xbox, or a foosball table, so that they can take out some of that negative energy, enjoy themselves, and then get back to work feeling less stressed.
There is a wide variety of benefits that you can offer to your employees that will make their work at your company much more productive, and have them love the fact that they have chosen to work for you. While some of these benefits are obligatory, there are a lot you can introduce to make life a lot easier for your staff.
