Workplace benefits are becoming more important to people looking for a new job as a large number of employees will look for a company that will support their lifestyle and values. Research from Glassdoor found that more than half of people (57 per cent) think benefits and perks are a top consideration before accepting a job.
It also found that 4 in 5 people say workplace benefits are more important than a pay rise, which suggests they’re a big influencer when employees are finding companies that will be a good fit for them.
But for businesses wanting to maximize their profit, how can you provide employee benefits without breaking the bank? There are plenty of low-cost or free ways to make your staff feel valued. Here are just three:
Bonus morning off
Giving your employees time away from the office is a fantastic way of praising them for a job well done. This can be done as a performance-based exercise or something you give out on a regular basis to a particular staff member or team that you feel deserves it most. Aside from the cost of losing them for a few hours in the morning, this is completely free and could even make your company more productive in the long run.
Generous paternity and maternity leave
Starting a family is something that most professionals consider at some point, and this is made more difficult if they are not fully supported by their employer. Giving generous maternity and paternity to your staff is a simple way to show that you value them and the importance of the first few months for new parents and a baby. By offering this for both male and female workers, you are also showing that your company thinks starting a family is a shared responsibility.
Drinks in the office
Allowing people to enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of beer on a Friday afternoon is a great way to boost morale among your staff. It not only encourages a more relaxed working environment but also lets your employees know that you trust them to be sensible with how much they drink. This can always be followed by drinks in the local pub afterwards and treating staff to a crate of beer every now and then is sure to make this even better.
