"A company is only as good as the people it keeps."
Those words belong to Mary Kay Ash, the American business tycoon who turned her home-based cosmetics business into a billion-dollar global empire.
And she's by no means the only high-flying CEO to put people at the center of their business growth strategy.
"Employees are your company's real competitive advantage," believes Virgin boss Richard Branson. "They're the ones making the magic happen - so long as their needs are being met."
So, given the importance of holding onto the best people, online CV builder resume.io decided to find out which companies have the highest employee retention rates, and which ones need to do more for their staff.
Its researchers collected data on median tenure rates from LinkedIn and created several tables ranking companies on how long their employees stay.
Overall, they show how the airline industry is doing an excellent job of keeping staff happy. Airlines account for over half (11) of the top 20 companies with the longest average tenure rates.
But they couldn't take the top spot; that was a tie between banking giant HSBC and cosmetics firm Neutrogena. On average, employees at both firms stay for 10.2 years.
