Unconscious Bias in the Workplace
Unconscious bias happens when people favour others who look, speak or act like them – and within a work context it leads to a less diverse workforce. These biases affect how we behave and the decisions we make. We use them automatically, unintentionally and unconsciously. Problems arise if these biases lead to discrimination which can damage an organisation's reputation and also lead to fines and other penalties. On an individual basis it can lead to lost sales, poor customer service and ultimately dismissal.
