Facebook has recently announced its rebranding into Meta. The company will work on creating the metaverse, a virtual universe where we can “work, play, and coexist,” in approximately 10 years. And the internet went wild.
Tidio decided to check what society thinks of this. The chatbot company surveyed over 1,000 people about what “experiencing the metaverse” could really mean and how it may influence our identity, lifestyle, and finances.
Here are some of the most interesting statistics:
- 77% believe that the metaverse can cause serious harm to modern society
- At the same time, almost 46% think that 10 years from its release, people will live and coexist mainly in the metaverse
- 52% would join the metaverse for work possibilities
- About 14% admitted that they would pretend to be someone else in the metaverse just to check if their spouse or partner cheats on them
- As many as 73% of respondents admit that they would play “Squid Game” or another “win or die” game in the metaverse
- 1 in 5 people would watch virtual executions!
The report also focuses on the metaverse affecting our sense of self, censorship and financial issues around Meta and much more.
All in all, while most people don’t have a set opinion on the metaverse, some things are certain: it can be a remarkable invention offering endless possibilities, but if used improperly, it can threaten our reality.
